“There are those of us who are meant to take care of beautiful things.”
— Richard Blacher

I discovered a community of fossil tusk carvers when I came to Skagway to drive tours for one summer.  I thought carving ancient ivory would be a nice hobby...that was in 93'.  I'm still in Skagway, I still drive the occasional tour, and ancient ivory is now the center of my world, or at least it was until I met Hana.

Here is Hana with one of our largest specimens.

Hana was the center of my life until our son Matyas was born.

Now the three of us are centered around the preservation, restoration, and the grandeur of ancient northern ivories.

My name is Bruce Schindler and I have lived in Skagway for 24 years. I am a lucky man to work with ancient tusks. I am lucky to work with a community of miners and scientists in bringing to life the grandeur and nobility of the mammoth. My family and I know we are lucky to be part of this tight northern community. We love to travel and while we adore the places we visit it confirms there is no better place for us than the rugged, raw, and real life of the north. Thank you for exploring my site and I hope you enjoy your vicarious experience of the north and the woolly mammoth through these blogs.
